Prof. Michel Armand was born in France, attended schools in both France and the United States, and holds degrees in physical, organic, and inorganic chemistry from Paris in 1968, physics from 1978, and was named a Fullbright Fellow in 1970. He has held the positions of Professor at the University of Montreal (Canada) (1995–2004), Director of the Joint CNRS-UdM International Laboratory on Electroactive Materials (2000–2004), Senior Scientist at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory (1982–1983), and Directeur de Recherche at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) since 1989.
Prof. Armand is regarded as the “Father” of solid-state batteries and a proponent of numerous traditional lithium-ion technologies. He is best known for introducing the rocking chair batteries also known as lithium-ion batteries. An Emeritus Researcher from CNRS, France and now is leading a team in CICenergiGUNE Spain. Prof. Armand has an h-index of 95 and more than 69500 citations. He currently serves on the editorial boards of multiple journals (Solid-State Ionics, Journal of Applied Electrochemistry, Synthetic Metals, J. Power Sources) and organises and advises conferences for a number of international conferences.
